Big Buck Contest Winner

ORCA Big Buck Winner

The winner of the 2012/2013 Tri-State Big Buck Contest sponsored by O.R.C.A. and Smokey’s Deer Lures was Mark Davis of New Cumberland West Virginia with a Pope & Young net score of 150&2/8th.
The contest which ran from October 2012 to December 31st .Registrations were accepted by December 31st 2013 and all the entries had to be submitted by March 1st 2013. ORCA and Smokey’s Deer Lures teamed up to offer the lucky winner $250.00 in prize money and $250.00 in merchandise.
Mark is a veteran deer hunter who spends more time in the wood prior to and during hunting season than he does at home according to his wife, Patti. In 2011 Mark passed this deer over for another deer that grossed 144 5/8ths and netted 135 2/8ths in the Pope & Young Club.
Mark spends most of his off season time when he is not practicing his taxidermy trade maintaining his food and mineral plots in the hills around where he lives. Mark prefers to hunt over a food plot and he is also one of the few hunters that hunts from a ground blind and a tree stand depending what he found out about the deer’s particulars’ while doing his preseason scouting.
This deer was shot at 25 yards and ran approximately 125 yards before he dropped leaving a slight blood trail that helped Mark recover this fine animal about 4:30pm that same afternoon. Mark used a Darton 3800 compound bow with a Carbon Express arrow, tipped with Wasp 85 grain tip that completely passed through and brought this big fellow down. This will not be the last time you will hear from Mark, he and 5 of his friend are planning a trip to Iowa in 2014 for whitetail deer trophy hunt of a life time.
Congratulations Mark for a job well done.
